White RIbbon Riders

Today we had the White Ribbon Riders at school sharing their Anti Violence towards Women message.   We had fun sitting on their BIG motorcycles.

We have had a great start to our last term with some fun activities.  The children are really enjoying their gymnastics and squash lessons.  We have our talent show coming up on Friday.  The children have had fun showing the class their skills.  We are learning about 'Pushing our Limits' and will look at people around New Zealand (and the world) who have strived for success or overcome disabilities.
We will soon be finding out about the lives of some our our Saints and then moving into Advent with some fun Christmas activities.

 

 

 

 Today Room5 enjoyed a puppet show fom Charlotte and a few other girls for the talent show.

      
        WOW Today we had fun watching Kent playing his fantastic Key Board. It was amazing!

Congratulations Elaizo on winning the Yo-yo prize for having the best answer  to "What makes a Champion"?  It was a wonderful show encouraging us to always strive to try our best.   The yo-yo skills and tricks were extremely good.

We had fun wearing our hats and we know Grace will benefit from the money we raised.

We will think of her in our prayers and hope they find a cure for her diasese.

TERM 3
It has been great welcoming back everyone for our 3rd term.  Most children stayed home these holidays and enjoyed working on their 'Strength & Gentleness' challenges, reading and chilling out. I spent the first week in Australia (Mooloolaba) enjoying some sun and helping our daughter with wedding plans.

We have a fun busy term planned with ONTV - Capital E News Programme and our new Inquiry unit 'Body Systems' linking with the Olympic Games.

Year 6 girls versus teachers at Netball

A fun lunch time with all the staff having a go a trying to beat our wonderful netball team.  Well done all - it was a drawer.  

Room 5  has been having  fun in maths making  graphs on excel.

We have had a wonderful term learning about the Rocky Shore.  Our trip to Plimmerton Beach was a great learning experience.  Although the weather could have been better we had a lot of fun and kept reasonably dry.  Thank you so much to those parents who could help.  Homework books will be kept at school for the last week to ensure they are all here ready for Week 1 next term.  Have  a great holiday everyone.

Island Bay Marine Centre

We had a fantastic learning opportunity at the Marine Centre as well as a fantastic day with the weather.  The children enjoyed  exploring, touching and learning about life on the Rocky Shore and how we as humans can help.  It has been a great introduction to our unit on Biodiversity.

Welcome to Term 2.  It is always lovely seeing the children all nice and fresh after their break and listening to their adventures.  We have already planned a busy term starting with our trip to the Marine Centre to look at the Rocky Shore on Friday 4th May.  This term is our Cross Country training so  please ensure your child has sport shoes everyday for runnning.  I look forward to seeing parents/caregivers over the term and appreciate help in anyway - ie sharing of skills, resources, information etc.   We have our School Parish Mass coming up and also our Maths Expo evening.  Finally just a reminder to return the notice about our Music Festival.   Thanks  Bev Vernon

We have had a wonderful term learning about our where our families have come from and looking at the way different cultures celebrate. Its was lovely to see all the children in their national costumes last week. A big thank you to the parents in Room 5 who helped with our technology/art/dance activities making our lion and dragon costumes. The children had fun creating and working together in teams. They certainly came up with creative costumes.

Wow what a concert we all had with Andrew Chin.  It was a great night following all our goal setting iterviews.  Thank you parents/caregivers for your participation.  Our swimming programme started of really well.  Reminder we have Tawa Zone sports for all Room 5 & 6 students at Tawa School starting 11.00amon Tues 13th.   We will walk there after an early morning tea.  You are welcome to come and support (or help).

Some parents may be wondering why the home learning book did not come home today (friday 2nd March) but I want to keep them at school for parent/child/teacher interviews.

We have had fun with Pancake Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and our Marae visit.  The children have enjoyed creating their visual Mihi's and writing their stories for Merv Kemp Library.  Thank you for supporting them with ideas.   Just a reminder - swimming togs in a named bag esvery Friday this term.  Please check their clothing is named.  We looking forward to sharing our learning goals at interviews.

Our Visit to the Marae

Welcome to Room 5.   As you can see we are an enthusiastic and motivated lot of learners.  We are enjoying the start of the new year and look forward to the challenges ahead.   Our teacher Mrs Vernon is looking forward to meeting our parents and having lots of learning fun with us.
